This porcelain vase was produced in Germany by Nymphenburg in the late 1940s to 1950s. The printed mark is Western Germany. There is also an impressed shield marking. It measures 11 3/4 inches high with a diameter of 14 3/4 inches at the widest point. The vase is a classic shape with slender neck and flared opening. It is decorated with a variety of colorful butterflies, painted by hand, in many shapes and sizes. The simplicity of form and minimalist design has a rather Asian feel. You know that Meissen used butterflies and tiny insects to hide imperfections on their early porcelains, but this decoration is purely intentional. It works quite well and is delightful.
