This porcelain cup and saucer was produced in Germany by KPM in the 1830s. It has a blue underglaze scepter and the letters KPM on both pieces. The saucer has a diameter of 7 1/4 inches and the cup is 3 3/4 inches high, not counting the handle. The cup features three lion’s paw feet and an ornate Empire style handle. There is a seated woman in flowing robes with a book and scroll in her hands. She is apparently a saint with a halo. There is a gold goblet next to her with a serpent in it. The artistry of this painting is evident from how perfect her face and fingers are painted. The interior of the cup is gilded on the sides. The sides of the cup and the saucer are hand gilded in the most elaborate manner.
Condition: The band of gold in the well of the saucer is worn. There are no other defects.
