This porcelain coffee cup and saucer was produced in Vienna in the 1880s. The beehive mark is under the glaze. The saucer has a diameter of 51/2 inches and the cup is 2 1/4 inches high. The ground color is a deep forest green. There is a reserve on the cup with a hand painted scene. It is artist signed “Horan” and the scene is entitled, “Amor am Pranger” or Love Contained. The goddess Diana has Cupid tied to a tree. The scene is framed in elaborate raised gilding. The gilding also surrounds the border of the saucer. A good portion of the interior of the cup is gilded in mirror finish gold. There is gilding on the handle and rims.
