This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Meissen between 1890 and 1910. The saucer is 4 1/4” in diameter and the cup is 2” high, with a diameter of 2 1/2”. The set has a lemon yellow ground color. The front of the cup and well of the saucer have reserves with sprays of colorful, hand painted flowers. They are painted with precise detail so that you can identify each variety. If you look closely, you will find an insect or butterfly fluttering about. The flowers are framed with elaborate hand gilded cartouches. The borders are trimmed with elegant gilding and the inner rim of the cup matches the pattern of gilding. Meissen’s workmanship is prized the world over for the finest hard paste porcelain and their artistry other porcelain manufacturers could only envy.
