This is a ceramic figure, made in France in the late 19th century. There is an impressed mark on the back, "CH Ficquenet, SEVRES." The front base is signed "Joseph Cheret jc." It is 16 1/2 inches high and 9 inches across from one basket to the other. The ceramic composition of this figure is terracotta. It has a turquoise glaze that gives the piece a majolica feel and look. This young girl is calling or singing out to sell her wares from the baskets on her arms. It is finely modeled, showing great detail with the turquoise glaze highlighting the folds in her drape and the weave of the baskets. As a center piece, one might place flowers in these baskets for display. This unique figure is in excellent condition.
