Artists Statement“I remember most vividly within my childhood memories the times shared with my grandfather, then in charge of Vega Grande, a country house where we lived with his family. Those days were full of awe. The house was surrounded by dense forests embroidered by ravines and brooks with cascading waterfalls over haunting rock formations. Deer, jutias, cotorraas, hundreds of chinchillas and tomeguines were everywhere. I was seven then and walking about the place gave free reign to my imagination. I gazed in fascination transforming the elusive suggestions perceived in the shinning wet stones, the fallen leaves, the multicolored earth, creating new things in a surreal world of beauty, inhabited by guijes and duendes leaves, twigs, stones and clay. I would mold them into little figures and leave them out in the sun and wind to dry. Sometime, the rain would carry them off, new ones would quickly take their place. These visits allowed me to see the world anew and shape my thoughts. They became a ritual. It would mark the beginning of a lifelong endeavor in which creating has been the one and only goal. Exploring different disciplines has enabled me to investigate aesthetic issues in many directions. Architecture, sculpture, painting…an uninterrupted flow of creation.

I would venture to say that my work is not an attempt to challenge a time seemingly overwhelmed with ideas justifying the rhythms that allow the unification of new visions. It enjoys being a part of the apparent prevailing chaos. It possess it own faith and belief in contributing to a timeless present.” - Jorge Porto
