Very rare find! Signed original box designating this vase as a gift from the Empress Showa Period 16 (C.1942). Must have been a congratulatory gift as the beautiful turtles in relief on the front symbolize longevity and the kanji characters on the back in lovely cursive relief read "Ban Ban Zai" meaning 2 x 10,000 years of congratulations. The bronze is murashido which is achieved when the hot ly fired bronze is repeatedly dipped in hot oils to get the patinated finish. 11" tall by 9" in diameter. Ask for shipping quote.

Signed Fukimori C.1950 bronze samurai dancing the popular 'Kuroda-bushi' folk song. First written in C.1596, the legend has it that a samurai in Kyushu, Morita Heibei, was promised one of the second Shogun Hideyoshi's spears if he could drink an exceptionally large bowl of sake. Exceptional early Showa Period c.1937 art deco bronze flower vase in the original signed paulownia box. The kanji on the box reads: Chudo Ume Moyo "bronze vase with plum petal motif. Also Kabin or "flower vase". On the inside is the signature of Tatsugo and his seal. The bronze has plum petals in raised relief and inside small crosses.
