Signed on the reverse with a chiseled signature by the artist: Keiten (Takahashi Keiten, born 1920). Showa era, circa 1960 – 1970. Born in 1920 in Yamagata Prefecture, Takahashi Keiten first studied metal casting under Nagano Tetsushi in 1950. His work was first accepted into the government-sponsored 7th Nitten exhibition in 1951. In 1963, he won the encouragement prize at the Nihon Dento Kogei Ten (Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition) and from 1972 served as a judge for the exhibition. He has presented his work to both the Showa Emperor and the Heisei Emperor on the occasions of their visits to Yamagata. In 1996, Takahashi Keiten was designated Juyo Mukei Bunkazai or Important Intangible Cultural Asset (commonly known as a Living National Treasure). 7" high by 4" in diameter. Ask for shipping quote.

Elegant wide mouthed vase styled after woven silk patterns (shimame) by Kyoto artist Mizuno Hideo in signed box. Born in Nagano to a famous pottery family, Mizuno came to Kyoto to study under the famous Okabe Mineo. He has won numerous prizes at the Nihon Dento Kogei Ten and Asahi Togei Ten. c.1960. Exceptional C.1950 modern art deco bronze ikebana flower vase used for flower arrangements in the tea ceremony. This special vase has carp flowing around the vase over waves in fine relief. Very rare find! Signed original box designating this vase as a gift from the Empress Showa Period 16 (C.1942). Must have been a congratulatory gift as the beautiful turtles in relief on the front symbolize longevity and the kanji characters on the back in lovely cursive relief read "Ban Ban Zai" meaning 2 x 10,000 years of congratulations. The bronze is murashido which is achieved when the hot ly fired bronze is repeatedly dipped in hot oils to get the patinated finish. 11" tall by 9" in diameter. Ask for shipping quote.

Exceptional early Showa Period c.1937 art deco bronze flower vase in the original signed paulownia box. The kanji on the box reads: Chudo Ume Moyo "bronze vase with plum petal motif. Also Kabin or "flower vase". On the inside is the signature of Tatsugo and his seal. The bronze has plum petals in raised relief and inside small crosses. Fabulously art deco Late Meiji Period/ Early Taisho Period Morita Chikuami bamboo flower basket. Signed on the reverse with an incised signature by the artist: Chikuami Tsukuru or Made by Chikuami (Morita Chikuami, the go or art name of Morita Shintaro). Taisho era, circa 1920. The artist formed the body with basic twill plaiting made irregular by skipping over stays. Wider sections of split bamboo overlay the entire basket. Morita Chikuami won a prize for his work at the fifth Naikoku Kangyo Hakurankai (Fifth Domestic Industrial Exhibition) in Meiji 36 (1903). He lived in Kyoto and was active as late as Showa 2 (1927). 16" tall by 6 1/2" wide. Comes with original wood box. Ask for shipping quote.
