Exceptional Yoshitora original woodblock scroll dated feb. 1866. Yoshitora's real name was Tatsugoro Nagashima and he was a pupil of Kuniyoshi. This woodblock scroll with vivid detail and color is of an 'oiran' the queen of the Geishas. This style of woodblock scroll is called 'Takenaga Hosho' indicating the long length of the woodblock and in this field the narrow width is called 'habahiro hashira-e' (pillar style). The woodblock is 71cm x 23cm, the entire scroll is 147cm x 37cm. Shipping/insurance to usa/western europe $50.

Smashing pair of zen temple buddhist cloud carvings form the late Edo Period/early Meiji Period c. 1870. Carved out of cypress wood and with gold gilt. Extremely rare and hard to find Edo Period c.1860 byobu screen in good condition and featuring tigers frolicing in bamboo. One of a pair most likely as the other six panel screen had the hanko. This screen has been repaired a long time ago and we challenge you to find the repairs. All and all, a museum piece that fits handsomely over a couch.

Wabi - sabi Meiji Period c.1900 'aka' red bronze 'koro' incense burner. Square on four legs, the entire body has the thunder diaper motif and swirling flowers and geometrical designs. The lid has a mythical, playful 'shishi' lion. The legs all are adorned with mythical elephant heads. One end has been repaired, and the repair has been done with silver and a long time ago. Important Edo Period C.1850 scroll painting of Kannon holding `Yatagarasu` the divine crow and messenger to the gods. Symbolizes the sun and like the sacred phoenix resides in the celestial realm. A mark of rebirth and rejuvenation. Yatagarasu as a crow-god is a symbol specifically of guidance. This great crow was sent from heaven as a guide for Emperor Jimmu on his initial journey from the region which would become Kumano to what would become Yamato, (Yoshino and then Kashihara).
