Very sweet hearth pot stabilizing zelkova fish and iron hook on a bamboo pole with iron circle and fittings. A pot was held above the open hearth fire in old japanese minka farmhouses. The fish could be adjusted to adjust the pot. Years of fire smoke have created a patina on the fish and bamboo. The bamboo has iron bands on it and a few minor cracks. The fish is in great condition. Exceptional and rare Meiji Period C.1890 bronze Shachihoko or mythical dragon carp Koro or incense censor. . Shachi or Shachihoko were frequently used as roof ornaments in the Edo period (1600-1868) and found atop castles, tower gates, and samurai homes. These fish-shaped ornaments are placed at both ends of the main roof ridge, with the male Shachi placed on the left and the female Shachi on the right. The creatures are thought to provide protection against fire, as they are attributed with the power to control rain. This dragon /carp has a lid on the upper tail. Very rare and unusual buddhist temple garden bronze turtle water spout. Lovely blue green patina from years outside on the turtles. Signed on the bottom ` Yoryo ` Mama turtle with baby turtle on its back. Little pegs on the back of the mama and tny holes in the baby`s feet keep it mounted. Wonderful Amida Buddha made of thick bronze signed on the back with the name: Fukui. We conservatively date it late 1800`s but it could be much older. Roughly cast but with fantastic simple beauty and depth. The more you look and be with this buddha, the more it`s essence of compassion and awareness permeates. Very mingei folk art and wabi -sabi.
