Lovely serene buddhist Jizo bodhisattva diety with almost a knowing smile breaking. Carved out of granite in the Late Meiji Period. H:32cm; W:19cm; depth 13cm. Ask for shipping quote.

This beautiful bronze zen temple gong was made by one of Japan's great bronze craftsman who lived from The Meiji Period (1868) through the Showa Period. Famous for the gold shachihoko bronze fish on the roof of Nagoya Castle. This gong is dated Taisho 3 (Ca.1915). The writing has the date, the maker's name and all the donors' names. Excellent condition. H:56cm; diameter 30cm.

Absolutely fabulous bronze square-mouthed almost art deco flower vase in the original paulownia box, dated April, 1847. The kanji on the box reads: Koka 4 Nen Teimi Shigatsu, meaning 1847 in Edo Period in the 4th month (april) of the zodiac calendar. Hirota Gensho Motomu Nari meaning the piece was commissioned for a Mr. Hirota Gensho. On one side of the Kiri box is written: Sentoku Kabin, meaning it was a flower vase fired and colored with rice straw smoke. Stunning late Meiji Period Tamba Sembei Jar, Ca.1900. The writing on the jar says "Asakura" as this is an area in Tamba, north of Kyoto. These jars were used to transport Asakura sansho, a famous spice in this area to the capital of Kyoto. Excellent condition with beautiful natural wood-fired glaze patterns. H:30cm; diameter:23cm.

Wonderful Taisho Period tea ceremony 'mizusashi' tea utensil from the famed Iga ceramic center near Shigaraki, outside of Kyoto. Iga clays are famed for multiple firing possibilities and the glazes that ensue. The green jade-like feldspathic glaze on this piece is called "biidoro" which is unique to Iga. Very unusual Ca. 1930 iron lantern in the shape of a Shinto Shrine Drum with the 'mitsu tomoe' (three commas) which symbolized Raijin the god of thunder and lightning. Almost art deco iron lock plate from a kura (treasure house ) door. Shaped like a "Takara Bukuro" or mythical treasure bag that has all treasure magically inside. Ca. 1890. Iron.
