Magnificent set of Kamisugi Sake Brewery bronze doors from the Taisho Period, C.1920. One door has gold gilt wood letters reading 'Kamisugi' the other 'Shikishima', both sake brands. Very rare Ca. 1910 bronze zen temple dragon spout used in front of the temple entrance. Water from the dragon's mouth would run into a stone tsukubai where vistors to the temple would purify mouth and hands before entering the sacred space. Rare bronze mythical turtle koro or incense burner from the early Meiji Period Ca. 1880. In the form of one of Japan's most famous legends is this mythological giant turtle known as the 'Minogame' or straw raincoat turtle due to the tail resembling a farmers straw coat. The Minogame is regarded as a very auspicious creature in Japan representing long life and good fortune. A one of a kind huge bronze lotus temple basin with a dragon wrapped around the base and coming over the top as a water fountain. The base has bronze shishi in relief. C.1880. Stands over 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide. We had the fountain installed. Comes in two pieces; the base and the basin. Excellent condition with a minor dent in the tail of the dragon. Museum quality Edo Period C.1860 zen temple mizubachi. Lost wax cast with a great dragon spout in grand detail and spectacular shishi mythical lion ornament on the top of the lid. The diaper motif on the base is in raised relief and equally spectacular. The spigot on the dragon head is permanent so we are assuming that there was a constant water flow. Very slight indentation on one of the hanging jewels but so slight you can only see at the right angle. H:51cm x W: 43cm. Ask for shipping quote.

The mother of all daruma wood carvings. On the back of this Edo Period c.1700 masterpiece is engraved 'Genroku 13' (c.1700) ,'Saigenshin Tsukuri' carved by Saigenshin, a famous zen monk of the time. Also 'Kyosagaju' meaning he was from a temple in the Saga District of Western Kyoto. The Carving is a magnificent flow of lines and expression. Definitely a museum quality piece.
