Fabulous pair of brass hanging Shinto Shrine lanterns with chrysanthemum motifs on the panels, symbols of the imperial family. The nengo or date of the lanterns is inscribed Kyoho 21 May C.1737. The pair of lanterns is from Atago Shrine, one of the Imperial family Shrines in Japan located in Kishu Han or Wakayama. The condition is excellent. Old paper lines the inside. 14" tall by 13" wide.
