Just lovely antique Japanese Taisho Period c.1925 bronze flower vase with cranes under a moon in superb raised relief. Hotsuma Katori was born Meiji Period c.1874 and died in 1954. He was a graduate of the prestigious Tokyo Art School in 1891 winning honors as the top student and artist. He won the silver prize In the 1900 Paris World Expo. His works are in the Kyoto National Museum and the Tokyo National Museum. His son, also a bronze craftsman, is a National Treasure. Comes with wood stand. Perfect condition. c.1925. Gorgeous art deco Tamekichi Mitsui III signed Kutani plate. He received his artist's name Tamekichi III in 1961 from his teacher, and was soon afterward commissioned to create a plate for Edwin Reischhauer's visit in 1962. He was a favorite of the royal family who bought numerous pieces in 1976. Also from 1979-1988 Japanese Prime Ministers took his works abroad as gifts during state trips. He was a professor of art in Washington D.C. from 1997-2004 and had his own exhibition at the Smithsonian Museum in 2002. Perfect condition in a signed kiri wood box. $880. Rich impact art deco plate from the pottery master Kanou Mitsuo. He was born and lived in Kyoto c.1903-1970. He was known for his tortoiseshell glazes. In 1949 he won first prize at the Nitten, Japan's prestigious Fine Arts Exhibition. Later he was asked to be the top judge in the event. The plate comes in the original signed kiri wood box and on the lid it reads, 'Bekkou Yu' tortoiseshell glaze, and 'Hirabachi' flat plate. Gorgeous Oribe ceramic kogo which held the incense used in the tea ceremony. Signed in the original kiri (paulownia) wood box by the master, Nagira Yasuhisa. He was born in 1934 and won the Japan Traditional Art Gold Prize. In 1990 he won the prestigeous Kanashige Toyo Gold Prize. He started the famous Juko-gama kiln in Shimane Prefecture. Exceptional early Showa Period c.1937 art deco bronze flower vase in the original signed paulownia box. The kanji on the box reads: Chudo Ume Moyo "bronze vase with plum petal motif. Also Kabin or "flower vase". On the inside is the signature of Tatsugo and his seal. The bronze has plum petals in raised relief and inside small crosses. Employing a `seidoyu` dark green glaze, it is a type of oribe pottery produced in Gifu Prefecture only, (north of Kyoto) since the early 17th century. Striking Showa Period c.1930 negoro lacquered tray. Negoro lacquering techniques were developed in the Edo Period at Negoro Temple in Wakayama Pref. putting on layers of black lacquer then covering with red lacquer and burnishing until the black rubbed through.
