Mimura Kazuhiro(b.1931) is a nerikomi (multi-colored marbled ware) specialist who has had a very successful career exhibiting throughout Japan and at juried exhibitions as well, especially at the prestigious yearly Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Sensational Yanase Asao signed plate from the Onta Yaki Kilns in Oita Prefecture in Kyushu. C.1975. Yanase Asao is 70 years old now and will most likely be designated a National Living Treasure. Onta pottery is famous for the subtle clays and white and green glazes. Bernard Leach, the famous potter studied Onta Yaki in Oita and it had a profound influence on his work. One side is a door that opens with the inscription explaining these lamps were donated to Shofuku-ji Temple by Mt.Koya-san in honor of the 1150 year memorial of Kobotaishi, the revered monk who brought Tendai Buddhism to Mt.
