Regal free-flowing bamboo and rattan basket from one of the masters of bamaboo basket making, Sakaguchi Sounsai b. 1899-1967. Studied under Tanabe Chikuunsai I and was active in the Osaka and Kyoto region. Featured on page 90 of 'Masters of Bamboo by Melissa Rinne. Regal 'Seiji' celedon flower vase in signed original paulownia wood box. The vase itself is a masterpiece of 1950's seiji pottery by one of the best, Einosuke. Very elegant feel and subtle lime green shades. Stands 13" tall and a diameter of 10".

Signed Oinishi Rakusai V Akahada flower vase. In original signed paulownia wood box. B.1910 this vase was one of his early pieces in C.1950. From an illustrious Nara pottery family famed for Akahada ware.

The Takahashi family is along with the Ueda family the oldest potter family in Shigaraki and Takahashi Rakusai III b.1898-1976 was largely responsible for the revival of unglazed Shigaraki pottery in the 20th century. Working in the third generation he was designated a "Shiga Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property" in 1964 for his countless efforts. He was succeeded in 1976 by his son Takahashi Rakusai IV who was designated by government as "Intangible Cultural Property". Since 2010 the Rakusai family is working in the fifth generation. Very lovely black lacquered 'suzuri bako' writing box with mother of pearl inlaid leaves and swirling gold gilt vines on the cover. Inside is a silver ink pourer and ink stone and brush.
