Superbly elegant signed murashido bronze seido vase with original box from the Late Taisho Period C.1925-1930. Signed by Dogo. Coloring on this heavy bronze flower vase is par excellence. A one of a kind huge bronze lotus temple basin with a dragon wrapped around the base and coming over the top as a water fountain. The base has bronze shishi in relief. C.1880. Stands over 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide. We had the fountain installed. Comes in two pieces; the base and the basin. Excellent condition with a minor dent in the tail of the dragon. Spectacular Late Edo Period stone temple water basin with more recent bronze dragon water spout. Basin dated Ansei 4 (C.1857). Kanji characters on front read "Ho Nou " meaning devotional offering to god". Before entering temple or shrine one purifies hands and mouth with water before entering. Basin 26" by 16". The best bronze garden we have seen. Meiji Period C.1900. Rich patina. The top is rengei-ji style and the middle has a thunder diaper. The middle piece panels all have bats in excellent relief. First time we have ever seen bats on lantern panels. In Japanese the second ideograph used to write bat and that for luck are also homophones. Roughly 45 inches tall and 15inches in diameter. Very rare find! Signed original box designating this vase as a gift from the Empress Showa Period 16 (C.1942). Must have been a congratulatory gift as the beautiful turtles in relief on the front symbolize longevity and the kanji characters on the back in lovely cursive relief read "Ban Ban Zai" meaning 2 x 10,000 years of congratulations. The bronze is murashido which is achieved when the hot ly fired bronze is repeatedly dipped in hot oils to get the patinated finish. 11" tall by 9" in diameter. Ask for shipping quote.
