Unusually large ca.1935 iron tea pot made for the hearth 'irori' in old japanese minka farmhouses. Stamped with the famed Nambu Iron Foundry in Tohoku Northern Japan, the inscription reads, 'Tetsubin Nambu Seido' iron teapot made at the Nambu Foundry. What makes this tea pot special besides the size is the 'arare' (hail) pattern of raised protrusions. Very art deco. 47cm tall x 43cm wide. Ask for shipping quote.

The piece has two parts; the top consisting of the crane's feathers and head, and the bottom which contains the ash. On the underside of the bottom in relief are the crane's legs tucked under. Unusual japanese bronze flower vase, signed with the original kiri (paulownia wood) tomobako box. On the lid of the box is the kanji 'Sentoku Tsubogata Hanaire' meaning the design is like a japanese tsubo or tea storage jar and smoked straw was used at the end of firing to achieve the rich colored markings and patina. The vase is a 'hanaire' meaning a flower vase.
