Rare buddhist pilgrim coat worn on a pilgrimage during esoteric 'shugendo' ascetic practice. The Shingon buddhist practioner, usually a yamabushi priest, would walk from temple to temple over rugged mountains in the Omi Range in Mie Prefecture south of Kyoto. At each temple he would get a red seal stamp of the temple on the coat. Different dieties are stamped on the coat and esoteric sanskrit buddhist characters. Made of asa or fiber. Good condition.

Sensational Yanase Asao signed plate from the Onta Yaki Kilns in Oita Prefecture in Kyushu. C.1975. Yanase Asao is 70 years old now and will most likely be designated a National Living Treasure. Onta pottery is famous for the subtle clays and white and green glazes. Bernard Leach, the famous potter studied Onta Yaki in Oita and it had a profound influence on his work. Very art deco hand-hammered copper flower vase with the seal of the Seiro-do Company on the bottom. In the original paulownia wood box, it is signed and a sensational flower vase. The box has the Kanji inscription, "Konjiki Uzumon" meaning golden swirl thunder motif. Showa Period C. 1950. The patinated copper finish has a streak, see pictures. H:12" x diameter:7 1/2 ". Royal Shigaraki sake storage jar with the 16 petal chrysanthemum crest which could only be used by the royal imperial family connected to the Emperor and Empress. Very rare. Fired in Shigaraki outside of Kyoto the jug would have been used to transport sake to the capital. Late Meiji period, C.1900. Lovely mix of white, blue green and brown glazes. perfect condition. Exceptional Taisho Period C.1920 Bronze Garden Lantern. The round decorative middle piece aesthetically balances the simple top and base. In fine relief each panel has a scene; one is a sage, another is a dragon. The door opens to allow a lighting source. In the old days it was an oil dish and wick. Unbelievable, rare Edo Period C.1860 large shop sign 'kanban' for liver medicine. It was believed if a little boy cried too much his liver needed some help. Fantastic thick hinoki wood carving ornamentation with layers of black lacquer. Stout legs and finely detailed buddhist clouds in bronze around the frame. Great condition. Zen Buddhist Temple lanterns dated Showa 43 (1969). Inscripted on the lantern tops is the japanese characters 'senzo bodai no tame' meaning they were commissioned by Hamano Koichiro and Tawaramoto Genko so that their ancestors would be come buddhas.
