Extremely rare Edo Period c. 1850 zen buddhist temple altar sacred inner chamber mirror. This mirror reflects the emptyness and void state the mind should achieve. The wood stand that holds the mirror is carved out of keyaki 'zelkova' wood in the lotus flower motif. There is minor wear on the wood. Mirror itself is bronze and on one side has the phoenix, the protector of the dharma (truth) in raised relief. Signed by Sawamori. The mirror has a bronze crown of flames. Some pieces of the flame are missing. The bottom of the mirror that fits into the stand has a broken piece that can't be seen. Ask for shipping quote. H:44cm x W:34cm
