Stunning late Meiji Period Tamba Sembei Jar, Ca.1900. The writing on the jar says "Asakura" as this is an area in Tamba, north of Kyoto. These jars were used to transport Asakura sansho, a famous spice in this area to the capital of Kyoto.
Excellent condition with beautiful natural wood-fired glaze patterns. H:30cm; diameter:23cm.
