Japanese Contemporary Hanakago, a wall hanging bamboo basket made for Ikebana, the art of flower arranging, titled “Mt. Fuji Shaped Basket”, by the acclaimed Osaka basket artist Suemura Shobun (1917-2000).
Woven from Susudake (smoked) spotted bamboo in a bird’s nest style with a round opening at the top and lacquered bamboo culm flower container housed inside, additional mushi-maki (insect weave) as four feet on the two horizontal struts underneath and woven loop near the opening for hanging. Original signed storage box (Tomobako) labeled on the exterior lid “Mt. Fuji shaped flower basket” and signed Suemura Shobun on the inside of the lid with 2 red seals of the artist.
