Antique Caucasian Shirvan Soumak Rug, District of Shemaka, Russian Empire. A fine vegetable dyed cashmere wool flat weave using supplementary wefts in a weft wrapping technique. A Chajili hexagonal medallion on center with matchbook peacocks on either side on a dark blue field and bands above and below with Marasali type design on a white ground. Two frame border designs one Kufic and the other diamonds. Label on backside.
Condition: One hole near the center & five further weak points near the ends and edges otherwise complete.
