Japanese Imari Jardiniere, made for export from Japan to the west in the 19th century. This jardiniere is richly decorated in underglaze blue, red/rust and gilded throughout. The surface is entirely covered in hand painted stylized depictions of flowers and shrubbery in repeating panels and bands, on a vertically ribbed body with an out turned lip.
