Artist Henry Clay CADY, Original Watercolor “”Ocean Waves” 13 x 22 inches frame size 19 x 28“ Henry Newell Cady 1849-1935 Henry Newell CadyThis late 19th century artist from Warren, a small coastal town in Rhode Island, was best known for his seascapes of New England. His coastline paintings evidence a sensitive touch for capturing the effects of sky and sunlight conditions in ever-changing rhythms. A colorist of wide range and ability, his carefully rendered water colors and oils are unmatched for consistency and quality among 19th century Rhode Island painters. As a largely self taught painter, Cady exhibited amazing ability at a young age and spent some time studying at the National Academy of Design. He graduated from Brown University and it was not until the age of 46 that he devoted the rest of his life working at what he loved best-painting the sea. He exhibited in the New England area achieving recognition as an artist of note. As a member of the Providence Art Club, Cady contributed to the flourishing Providence art scene. In 1985, a comprehensive exhibition of his work traveled to Florence, Italy where it received favorable reviews by the European audience.
