Frank Vining Smith (1879 - July 30, 1967) was an American marine painter who specialized in sailing ships. Smith previously studied alongside Philip Hale, Frank Benson, and Edmund C. Tarbell at the Boston Museum School. He also attended Central Ontario Design School in Toronto and the Art Students League in New York City. After working for newspapers as an illustrator, he quit his job and devoted his time to painting naval scenes. His paintings can be seen at the Eastern Yacht Club and the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. This work is a watercolor study of Ducks done for an exhibition and possibly for a United States Duck Stamp. Frame is 20x30”.
