An extremely nice example of this folk art form, showing a a blue urn highlighted with white, and a bouquet of flowers in shades of blue and white. The frame is period, with wonderful original grain painting. It is extremely rare to find these in this type decorated frame. Behind the wood backing are newspapers from 1844.
The condition of the painting and the frame is excellent, with no problems. The framed size is 16 3/8" by 12 3/8".
Note: Foil paintings were done primarily in the second half of the 19th century, and were generally made by women and school girls. The colors and reflective surfaces displayed beautifully in rooms that were lit during that period with candles or gas lighting.
