A finely done silhouette of a gentleman, in its original frame and convex glass. Most silhouettes are hollowcut or cut and paste, with the painted examples, as this one is, being much rarer. The artist, using watercolor and pen and ink, showed his skill with his beautiful rendering and interesting attention to embellishments along the skull line, neck, etc.
The painting and frame are in excellent condition, with no tears, folds, restoration. There is some light and even overall toning, which does nothing to detract from the value or impact of this piece. Sight size is 2 3/4" in diameter, and the frame is 6" by 6".
