A very interesting portrait on organic material. Engraving on the reverse of the case provides the following information "Captain William Oakley died 30 January 1811, Aged 71". The reverse also has a glazed aperture. Oakley is dressed in a Royal Navy or East India Company uniform. The pinchbeck case, although somewhat later than when the portrait was done, itself deserves special mention, with beautiful cobalt enameling and pearls, all set in a gold surround. A pin and loop was added, probably at or close to the time this was painted, to allow this to be worn as a brooch.
No condition issues worth mentioning at all. Sight size is 1 3/16" by 1", and the overall size is 1 5/8" by 1 9/16".
