An amusing and charming oil on board naive painting showing a house, fronted by a white picket fence, nestled in trees, beside a lake. A large hill or mountain is in the background, while in the foreground a man is drawing water from a well. Dating of the painting is straightforward, as the artist made a point of showing the three propane tanks beside the house. It is unlikely that he would have painted them if the owner (possibly the artist) were not proud of having this new-fangled fuel, which had started appearing in commercial use around 1920.
The painting is in overall good condition, with a newer brown-painted frame. Sight size is 24" by 18", while the overall size is28 1/4" by 22 1/4".
