A rare Worcester porcelain coffee can, tapering slightly toward the base and molded with corrugated ribs above a finely scalloped foot, the lobed rim with a slight flare, and the double scroll handle with a pointed thumbrest. Painted in the Chinese style with flowering plants, the border with half-flowerheads linked by a red line above leafy tendrils.

Excellent condition with vibrant colors, no chips, cracks, or restoration. A slight paint skip is on one petal of one half-flowerhead, shown in the fourth photo, truly of no importance to the appearance or value. The height is 2 3/16" and the diameter at the top is 2 1/8".

NOTES: 1. A similar can is in the A.J. Smith collection, illustrated by Simon Spero (1996), fig. 111. Because of the difficulty of painting on ribbed shapes, most cans of this type were decorated with very simple enameling as opposed to this example. 2. A similar example, but with a rim chip, sold for $5740 at Bonham's as lot 19 in their May 10, 2006 sale.
