Signed and authentic Matl Matilde Poulat / Salas take the Mexico City folk style to it's height in this 350 gram heavy necklace. This is the closest piece that I have seen to the very rare Matl in the book MEXICAN SILVER by MORRILL AND BERK. The birds are distinctive with the looking back heads which are 2.75in. x 2.25in. The center Caracola has a gorgeous teal turquoise stone that is almost an inch long. The center drop measures 3.25in. x 4in. The chain is 1.25in. wide and is a gorgeous amethyst stone studded beauty. The last links by the clasp are smaller and make it much easier to hold onto while taking the necklace on and off. The wearable length is 18in. as shown but there is more chain (came with the necklace which was kept from sizing) to make the length in the 26in. range. You will be surprised to find that for it's size it is also comfortable to wear. No damage, dents or repairs and remarkably cared for. The provenance dates this to 1979 and purchased in Taxco. It is hallmarked with MATL SALAS MS-12 as shown. The repousse has great depth and dimension with a big presence and not for the faint hearted. Please email or call for more on this marvelous piece. Stunning on, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!
