Satsuki was from Kyoto, the most famous pupil of Tomioka Tessai, early C20. This painting is beautifully painted with black and plum colours, perfectly combining strength and delicacy in the technique and in the subject matter. In Japanese culture as in Chinese, plum blossom symbolizes strength and nobility of character. Good condition, some creases, with original signed box. Size: L: 199cm W 42cm.

Yokoyama Seiki is an artist from the Shoji school during the late Edo period.(1603-1868) . Seiko was one of the best pupils of Matsumura Keibun (1779-1843). Seiki is particularly renowned for the fine quality of his Kacho-ga as well as for his figurative and landscape paintings.
