This is a grey, high-fired earthenware cocoon-shaped jar, cold-painted with swirling cloud patterns in red, white and light blue from the Western Han period, 206 BC- 9 AD. It has a short neck and everted rim. The marks of old plant growth can be found close to the bottom. It is very unusual to find one of these jars in such a fine state of preservation. This one is somewhat larger than the norm. It’s a fine example of the skill and creativity of the Han potter. Ex: Antony J.Allen. Condition: In exceptional condition, but with some expected loss to the pigments. Size: dia: 36.8 cm, h: 37 cm.
