Probably the most famous antique shop & print shop (now an auction house as well) specializing in traditional Chinese paintings and books, Rongbaozhai (Studio of Glorious Treasures) was established in the late 17th century. Beijing RongBaoZhai has inherited Chinese traditional block printing skill and has enhanced it onto a higher level. This particular print is a great example of Rongbaozhai’s excellent woodblock printing techniques. The artist Niu Shihui (1625-1672) was from the Ming imperial family. His brother was Zhu Da, also known as Badashanren. In the twentieth century Niu’s paintings developed a cult following among such painters as Zhang Daqian and Fu Baoshi. Strangely, no original of the painting from which this print was made is on public record. Condition: Good, with slight signs of wear. It was recently remounted. Size: 192 x 54.5 cm, paper size: 86.5 x 41 cm
