This vintage 1970 adult comic book measures 9.75" x 6.75" and is full of illustrations by Gilbert Shelton, who was famously a friend of Janis Joplin. This issue of FEDS 'N' HEADS features the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Wonder (The Hog of Steel) Wart-Hog, and other "underground heroes." As the cover says, this offering is "for enlightened adults only!"

There are lots of nude, stoned hippies in these tragicomic tales, which include "The Hog of Steel, WONDER WART-HOG Meets the Elusive,...

This vintage "Popeye the Sailor" comic book is the standard size, roughly 10-1/8" x 6.75" and is fair to average condition. The pages are a bit yellowed, and there are some minor bends and scuffs to the cover.

The first story is titled "Love-In," and tells what happens when Olive Oyl decides to "find happiness in a world of messy hair, dirty clothes and love-love-love."

The "Swee' Pea!" comic strip is about an alien spaceship disguised as a trash can. There are also Beetle Bai...

Average condition. Front lower right cover was bent. There are some minor nicks along the bottom edges of some pages, and browning inside.

I love the retro advertisement for such things as The Super Sea Monkeys, which inspired a peculiar episode of South Park; the Hardy Boys and N...

This rare and delicate boudoir lamp was made in limited quantities by Cowan Pottery in the mid-1920s. The 6.25" t. figure was altered specifically for use in lamps, so that now the base is round and has NO holes for flower arranging. (This nude dancing figurine was originally a flower frog.) The shade is marked Steuben. Except for a small sliver chip where the shade is covered by metal, there are no nicks, chips, hairlines or repairs. Rewired and ready to use! Here is a group of 30 pages from LIFE Magazine (1916), each featuring a black and white illustration by the listed artist F. Foster Lincoln. Lincoln’s work is social satire of the highest form, each being a realistic genre-style painting that captures the foibles of the upper class during the era of the first Roadsters, the Late Edwardian Age, the precursors to Fitzgerald’s Gatsby flappers, and the declining nouveau riche descendants of the Gilded Age of the 1890s.

Taken from a (for...

This Mayer China Co. (Beaver Falls, PA) piece is a 7.25" vase, with medium-relief art deco berries and leaves, probably made in the late 1930s or early 1940s. Some shapes of this firm were designed by Valerie (Vally) Wieselthier, and this example certainly has a Viennese look. Glazed in glossy white. Like many other dinnerware concerns, in the 1930s Mayer added art pottery to their usual product lines in an effort to support sales during those difficult years.

No nicks, chips, hairlines...

This monumental Iroquois China "Super Bowl" (unmarked) was designed by Michael Lax in 1968 for part of his "Primaries" dinnerware line. Originally offered as a salad bowl, the sphere-shaped pottery shape could also be used as a jardiniere or other serving piece. Glazed in glossy white and measuring 11.25" diameter, it is intended to sit on the original wooden base. (One thumbtack is missing... the base assists you in rolling it around to the position you like.) The overall height can be made...

This rare Roseville Pottery Futura "Four Ball Vase" is shape 393-12" in this celebrated and internationally famous 1928-1929 line. The glaze on this example is exceptionally nice, with mottling in shades of pumpkin, caramel and cocoa all over, and a frothy cream-colored glaze outlining the sphere- and square-shaped vessel.

Like most (if not all) examples of this shape, there was a tight hairline at one of the top corners, which has been professional restored so exceptionally well that n...

In VIKTOR SCHRECKENGOST AND 20TH CENTURY DESIGN (the catalog for Viktor's 2000 retrospective exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art), Henry Adams observes that Diana (and the shape Americana, also from 1934) "intr...
