Elsa Rady (1943-2011) was widely known for the elegance and grace of her refined, delicate porcelains. She became friends with the controversial gay artist Robert Mapplethorpe, who included her work in some of his still-life photography.

A detailed obituary can be found in the Los Angeles Times: la-me-elsa-rady-20110204.

This bud vase is decorative more than functional, for it has the tiniest mouth (in the style of Rose Cabat feelies). The glaze is a nearly lustrous grayish blue, with a slightly darker coloring at the foot. Hand-incised Elsa 76 (for 1976).

Stunning and in excellent condition, with no issues whatsoever to report.
