This beautiful and rare vase is a 3.5” t. x 3.75” miniature. Wheel thrown, with a geometric pattern of triangles cut out (or perhaps some hand-applied onto the surface) to resemble an intricate and decorative textile. Some glaze may be inlaid as if in the manner of an enamel. Glossy aquamarine, turquoise blue-green, with a white interior. Absolutely fascinating conversation piece, date unknown.

Hand-incised marks include FAENZA / [shield logo] / D.H. / ISTITUTO D’ARTE. There was a major ceramic art school in Faenza, which is still one of the most important pottery regions of Italy, not just for faience and majolica, but other types of ceramics too. The number at the top may be either 1548 (possibly the year the institute was founded), or perhaps 1948.

NO nicks, chips, hairlines or repairs.
