A remarkable blue and white jar decorated with two dragons. The jar dates from the Korean Joseon period (Richo, in Japanese; 1392-1897), probably 18th century.

The jar shows traces of old repairs made during the Japanese Edo period (1615-1868). They were made by literally stapling the broken or cracked pieces together.
In spite of these regrettable yet captivating flaws, the jar has kept its vibrant and noble aura.

Kindly inquire if you have some questions.

A sublime, and hard to find tokkuri (sake pouring vessel) dating from the early Edo period (1615-1868). This very attractive vessel is one of the earliest examples of porcelains made in the Arita and Imari regions, probably shaped by the first potters to make that kind of ceramics in Japan, after having been “relocated” there from Korea. The resemblance to Korean Joseon ware of the same period is striking, from the glaze to the “akikusamon” underglaze painted motif. The cookie-looking...
