An exquisite plate made by Kitade Fujio (b. 1919), one of the best known Kutani ceramicists.

This plate is a fine example of the beauty of Kitade Fujio's work. The chickadee and its surroundings are painted with the rich colors of the Kutani palette in a very elegant way. Kitade Fujio studied in both Kyoto and Kanazawa, with his uncle Kitade Tojiro, a third generation potter. In a way, this plate is a combination of the two traditions with a modern appeal and shows the high level of sophistication of Japanese porcelain.

Kitade Fujio has studied ceramics all his life and written several books. His academic knowledge of the craft as well as his talent as an artist have earned him wide recognition, and he is the recipient of several prestigious awards such as the Asahi Togei (Asahi ceramic) exhibition prize, the Nitten prize and the Prime Minister's prize.

Please let me know if you have some questions.

The plate is in very good condition and signed by the artist. There is a small chip visible inside the foot rim (please see picture 7).
