A beautiful sometsuke plate made by Kondo Yuzo.
Kondo Yuzo (1902-1985) is one of the best-known Japanese potters of the 20th century. Born in Kyoto, his kiln was in the famous Kiyomizu temple area. In 1977, he became Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Japan (Living National Treasure) for the Sometsuke style of pottery.
This particular plate is a more sober work by the master, yet made with an always free hand.
