A wonderful porcelain vase from the Kutani tradition, one of the finest and most renown Japanese ceramics. It was made by a recognized craftsman named Shimizu Bizan (born Shimizu Tokutaro 1861-1926).

Shimizu Bizan learned painting and Satsuma porcelain techniques. These influences make for unique designs. This particular vase is decorated with two "Ho-o" (Fenghuang, in Chinese), one male and one female, a motif inspired by classic Chinese art. It is beautifully rendered with rather subdued green tones and gold enamel.

Please inquire if you have some questions.

The vase is in very good condition, with very little enamel wear. The vase is signed "Kutani Bizan".
