A superb 15-16th century bronze statue of Buddha, made in the Lanna style (Chiang Saen school) of Northern Thailand. The Buddha is sitting in the “Earth as witness” (Bhumisparsha mudra) position, the right hand pointing towards the earth.

The statue presents a well balanced body and a beautifully serene face. Strong arms, large shoulders and chest, narrow waist and the end of the robe falling on the left shoulder, above the nipple; those are characteristics of Chiang Saen sculptures, strongly influenced by the Shukhothai style.
