Offers Welcome!

A superb Karatsu chawan (tea bowl) dating from the Japanese Momoyama period (1568-1600).

Light and of small size, it is very well balanced. It could have been used for outdoor tea ceremonies and would perfectly fit the hands of a lady.

The vessel is veiled by a thin milky white glaze that subdues the roughness of the clay without diminishing its inner-strength.

The chawan shows traces of old repairs with lacquer and gold (kintsugi).
