A superb set of one kushi (comb) and one kogai (hair pin) made in the maki-e style of lacquer. The set dates from Meiji period (1868-1912).

Flowery motifs and calligraphed fan paper are rendered in sublime details with gold lacquer and mother of pearl, on the front of the comb. Similarly beautiful motifs of flowers and pines can be seen on the other side.

The hair pin, decorated with incised lacquer, also shows remarkable craftsmanship.
