This Hagi chawan (tea bowl from the Hagi pottery tradition) is a superb example of the genre, made by a master potter, Sakakura Shinbei XV (b. 1972). Sakakura Shinbei is a worldwide recognized artist. As a direct descendant of the founders of Hagi ware, he is one of the guardians of a four hundred year old tradition

The chawan was given the name "如意" (Nyoi) by Tachibana Daiki (1898-2005) a Zen master from Daitoku-ji, a major Zen temple located in Kyoto. (A close translation of"Nyoi", in my humble opinion, would be "assent". It is a word which was used by samurai, and in the tea ceremony world.)
