Seated Jizo Bosatsu figurally sculpted from a fine-grained igneous stone, both hands centrally placed on the lap and holding a hoju (sacred jewel). Momoyama/early-Edo Period ca. 1600. Traces of polychrome and overall black-soot patination due to centuries of exposure to the smoke of candles, oil lamps, and incense sticks used for devotional purposes.
