Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu in characteristic seated pose of royal ease, sculpted in relief from sandstone. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1700. Very minor old loss. Overall patination due to centuries of exposure to the smoke of devotional-use candles, oil lamps, and incense.

Height: 14.5 cm
Width: 12 cm
Depth: 7.5 cm

This charmingly small-scale stone Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu was employed as a devotional object and displayed inside the butsudan (Buddhist altar) of a private household. Extremely uncommon.
