Guest Book

Figurative stone depiction of a seated Ebisu, with signature tai (sea bream) tucked under the left arm. Late-Edo Period ca. 1850. Minor old loss and traces of original polychrome visible under a green cover of lichen accumulation.

Height: 27.9 cm
Width of base: 16.8 cm
Depth of base: 12.2 cm

The only native member of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods, or Shichifukujin (the other six members derive from Indian or Chinese gods), Ebisu is typically depicted in wood or clay but only rarely in stone.

A notably charming rarity.
