A stunning, all original pristine .800 silver coffee service for 12 c1905-10. In its original fitted case, this set consists of twelve 3-3/4" coffee spoons with gilt bowls, sugar tongs, and the ornate silver sugar bowl with the original clear glass liner. The box is green paper wrapped with gold borders and gilt shell clasps; the interior is silk lined with the L. Posen Wwe. retail stamp. It has the designation in the stamp Hoflieferant, which translates as suppliers or purveyors to the Imperial Court, which was granted to this firm in 1903. The well-respected German silver firm Lazarus Posen Witwe (widow) was established in 1869, and was in operation until it was destroyed by the Nazis at Kristallnacht in 1938. Each piece is stamped with the Posen marks, and the bowl features an exquisitely detailed gryphon and wreath openwork design; the inrterior is gilt as well. The 4" diameter sugar bowl has a clear crystal liner with a polished pontil, and there is a sugar tongs as well as the 12 spoons. The box measures 13" x 9-1/2", and this stunning quality set is in excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, it appears possibly unused. There is only a bit of tearing of the bottom paper, a bit of soiling to the silk on the inside of the lid and some darkening of the gold borders on the exterior. All
